I was honored to be accepted by Liu Xing-han, fourth generation lineage holder in the art of Ba Gua Zhang (baguazhang/ pa kua Chang) a fifth generation disciple in 1988, in Beijing, the founding place of the art. Between 1988 and 2000 my students and I made frequent trips to Beijing to study with Master Liu. Fortunately we were able to video document at least some part of his vast Ba Gua knowledge. These are now being prepared for release. Material of the master and his senior students includes "Beggar staff," Ba Gua spear, 9 palace forms, Ba Gua saber, broadsword and Ba Gua 2 person combat application drills.
I have a tremendous amount of gratitude and appreciation for my oportunity to study with Liu Xing-han, in my view, the last great old school masters of the art. Fortunately, dedicated disciples and students are continusing his work in the U.S. and China.
